Science Fiction Podcasts on the Nebula Awards

I was excited to see a new Sofanauts in the feed this morning. I listened to Sofanauts 34 on the drive to work this morning (the whole thing … stupid LA traffic). On the way home I listened to the first episode of a new podcast, The Skiffy and Fanty Show. I highly recommend giving both a listen and catching up on Sofanauts if this is the first you’ve heard of it.

Both covered the Nebula Award Winners. Their coverage was distinctly different and in general a preferred the Sofanaut coverage. Tony and his guests pointed out all the unique aspects of this year’s winners. The novel award was won by an independent press. Clarkesworld represented for online magazines with a win. I first experienced both Spar and Sinner… on podcasts. A donation based online serial won the YA award. Fun crazy stuff. Congratulations to all the winners. It was quite satisfying to have organically read almost all the winners this year.

Both podcasts mentioned that the award ceremony was broadcast live this year. I haven’t watched it yet, but I think this is the archive on ustream.

  1. Thanks so much for the kind words about our podcast (the Skiffy one). Glad you enjoyed it. Next episode this weekend 🙂

I haven’t listened to the Sofanauts take on the awards yet. I imagine most people don’t agree with Adam about the winners. That’s probably inevitable. I, unfortunately, hadn’t read pretty much everything on the list, so my opinion was sort of dead weight. I think I’ll make a more concerted effort next year to have most of the stuff on the list read.

Still, thanks very much for listening and hopefully you’ll stick around.
