The Semiprozine Hugo

It’s possible that this year will be the last year for the Semiprozine Hugo. I’ve paid more attention to the Hugos this year, but I must confess that most of that attention was paid to the various fiction categories. I have opinions on the short story nominees. I at least read most of the Novel nominees. Finding a story I loved on the Novella list is what sparked my interest in the Hugos this year.

Since I haven’t even listed the Nominees for Semiprozine, I’ll list them here:

SaveSemiprozine.org inspired me to take a walk back through this blog and tag everything associated with a semiprozine. I found references to Locus, Clarkesworld, and Interzone. More of the semiprozines than that are on my radar, and no matter what the outcome of the award I plan to feature them a bit more on this blog. For the record, I fall firmly in the camp that this is a worthwhile award, but I don’t have much constructive to add to the discussion. Be sure to check out the summary posts over at SaveSemiprozine.org: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4.

  1. No, the vote to remove the category wasn’t ratified, so the semi-prozine is safe (until the next time people try to remove it).
