A bookshelf on “Fringe,” The Road Not Taken
Episode 19 (season one) of Fringe was one that made me want to go back and watch the rest of the series with an eagle eye to see if all the episodes took place in the same universe. I haven’t done that yet, but that urge hit me early enough in the episode that I also got an urge to list the books on the shelf in Susan Pratt’s apartment. A combination of how the shot was framed, and various aspects of the books themselves made this into quite a fun list to puzzle out. At least some of these books were chosen with purpose. I’ve not read many of these, so this isn’t a recommended reading list or anything, but it’s a neat list nonetheless:
- The Power Elite by C. Wright Mills — I actually missed this one for lack of a wide screen TV, but found it on this Fringe Easteregg Roundup
- The Biological Time Bomb by Gordon Rattray Taylor
- The Hollow Earth by Rudy Rucker
- The Peter Prescription by Dr. Laurence J. Peter
- Cadillac Orpheus by Solon Timothy Woodward
- Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke
- Dear Audience by Blanche Yurka
- Now Face To Face by Karleen Koen
- Sea Hunters II by Clive Cussler
- Water Beauty Book by Allegra Kent
- I couldn’t make this one out.
- The Biographer’s Tale by A. S. Byatt
- Heir Not Apparent by Suzanne Finstad
- No title on spine (black with some elegant red lines), but for the record, If someone from the show tells me what this book is, I’ll read it.
- The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

I like Fringe. Fortunately it is aired on German TV. Yesterday we watched episode The Dreamscape (German title: Schmetterlinge im Kopf – means translated back to English; Butterflies in your head).
And I’m happy that there will be a second season.
