TED and Kovacs: Military Robots and The Future Of War
Vodpod videos no longer available.
I found this video via Fat Knowledge which I found via The Mad Professor. I actually spend more time on TED.com than either of those sites, but the internet works in mysterious ways.
I post this because it reminded me VERY much of the decom teams in Woken Furies. I gave it an offhanded reference in my review, but the idea is that a whole section of the planet is uninhabitable, because robots are still fighting each other in a war that the humans long ago stopped fighting. This leads to the development of hacker/special ops teams specifically designed to decommission these battlefield robots. Richard Morgan writes about it well. This means Woken Furies and the above video enhance each other spectacularly.
P. W. Singer, from the above video, has a book, Wired for War that I might just have to check out. That and I feel a strong urge to reread a section of Woken Furies.
