Movie Review: Bob Funk
A close friend studies Kung Fu with a producer of Bob Funk. So 6 of us gathered on Sunset Blvd. last night to check it out. For me it was refreshing, both to be out with a group of friends and be watching an independent movie. If you have the opportunity to catch it while it’s in limited release, I’d do so. It’s at the Laemmle Sunset 5 for at least another week.
Basically, you have a family drama, the story of a drunk hitting bottom and starting the road to recovery, and a sweet romance all wrapped up in The Office/Office Space wrapping. Rachael Leigh Cook was quirky and cute. Michael Leydon Campbell, who played the titular character also did so in the movie’s former incarnation as a 4 person play, and it was clear that he’d inhabited the character for a decade. It was cool to hear from the director that many scenes, including the bar and the psychiatrist were monologues in the theatrical production. The movie starts a bit slow, but then seems to sync up with it’s source material. Overall, it was quite enjoyable.
