The Intro (Escape Pod vs. Variant Frequencies)
I just listened to the first couple episodes of Variant Frequencies. I enjoyed the stories and the production value was good, but I wish there had been a bit more discussion. My favorite part of Escape Pod is the intro. I can read good short fiction all over the place, but it’s great to hear an intelligent editorial bit before the story. That said, variant frequencies is a great addition to my iPod, and anyone that wants to get straight to the story, will probably find both podcasts on about equal footing.
I also just had my first experience (again starting with the earliest episode I could find) with the Time Traveler Show. It should come as no surprise that I enjoy the format of an interview and a story. I also LOVE that the story is an older one. However, I hope the “time traveler” shtick is either toned down or written a bit better as the podcast continues. It was a bit annoying, but most likely I’ll either deal with it or learn to find it charming, as the interview was interesting and the reading of the story memorable.
